Seik, your concluding comments, as to what we on HC can actually do, really made me stop and think. It does seem like a suggestion where there is virtually no downside risk, and the potential for quite a lot of upside.
If I understand correctly, we can simply put a portion of our holdings, say, 30%, on the market at 15c or so, well above the current price. As you point out, without a foothold of around 10%, most companies would be reluctant to make a bid, for fear of failing dismally and embarrassingly. If there is a serious takeover candidate lurking in the wings, buying at 15c could allow them to gain a large enough holding to launch a full bid, hopefully at a higher price. So we can then expect to sell the balance of our holdings at 15c or better.
I'd love to stick around for the ten years until the shares are worth a dollar or more, but I might be pushing up daisies by then. Your idea could be the trigger for action in weeks, rather than decades!
