You are a hair trigger lemming butcherboy, honestly. It was mentioned, and even you should acknowledge the information (or lack of) available on this.

Look at any fan curve and you understand the reason why wind turbines can never be a continuous source of steady state electricity.

Ignoring your only positive (the free feedstock), how many 2MW wind turbines does it take to replace a 350MW coal fired base load station? = 175. (70 turbines if you install 5MW). This is just 1 coal/steam turbine - Queensland alone has around 16 or so such coal/steam turbines (a whopping 1120 5MW wind turbine units - what an overnight market hey??).

Given now industry wide load factors for wind of at best an unsustainable 60% (ave) down to zero, and Europes largest provider EON admistting it requires 90% reserve generation to ensure the lights don't go out - then add up the following costs and CO2 -

    - manufacturing of wind turbines
    - Roads and tranmission system to interconnect remote 175 (or 70) wind turbines
    - Transmission and switching for interconnction to main grid
    - replacement and maintenance of the wind turbines
    - maintenance of required conventional reserve generation that is still needed

While I like the idea, I'd like to see an official documented unadjusted cost installed of wind power per MWhr and the offsetting CO2 savings - not just your monotonous diatribe. The prohibitive costs per unit ARE RELIANT ON the introduction of carbon trading and feed in subsidy tariffs.

Why are there so many wind turbines? Because it's trendy for lemmings like yourself to feel good about the environment. Welcome to the bubble factory.

Remove carbon tax/carbon trading and subsidies and see how profitable these green utilities are on their own merits in open market competition.

They have all been installed without substantiated cost benefit and performance analysis during the fear and smear climate change campaign - which is fine IF THE NUMBERS RETURNED ARE SUBSTANTIATED. A massive industry has been built from the false expectations of government which is now about to become an inflationary burden.

    Monkey see, monkey do.
