To me this is a bit like the leaders prior to the First World War having little comprehension how destructive a wider conflict regarding their own stakeholders prosperity and well being could be impacted. Evidently it seems too much faith is being placed on alliances yet again and their ability to circumnavigate risks from the opposing forces
