Over 80% of active managers fail over the long term.
As long as you like odds of 4 to 1 against, I guess people can keep betting on the next stock guru.
Sooner or later the masses will realise the odds suck, the fees suck and the performance sucks.
Until such time, managers will live it up as millionaires and investors will pay for it.
They aren't doing anything wrong. The data is clear as day, investors just don't care.
Put another way, I could start up a "boutique" investment firm tomorrow, charge over 1% management fees, and of course collect performance fees of no less than 20%, and simply dump it in a blind index.
I would still beat 80% of managers out there, whilst becoming a millionaire.
The industry is one big joke... on us.
