    You're right about the low level of "formal" shorts zwu, however I understand that when shares are "borrowed" to short a stock (ie. there is some form of beneficial ownership) then the short does not need to be reported to the ASX. Something along those lines anyway.

    That apparently was one of the big issues with Tricom. They margin lent on shares (such as AFG). Obviously the person with the margin loan wants the shares to rise. HOWEVER, the way the Tricom deal was structured Tricom actually owned the shares, and would tend to on-lend them to other funds who would short. Circumventing the need to report the short to the ASX.

    I'd be fairly sure that, assuming there was heavy shorting of MFS, it was done in a similar manner to this.

    For all the longs sake BB I hope you are right. I've writen my holding off in my mind at least, so if I get anything it will at least feel like a profit. $2 would even pay for a very nice holiday! lol
