Atom Energy confirms historical high grade intercepts at Kalgoorlie North


Emerging gold explorer Atom Energy (ASX: AXY) announced that bonanza grade gold mineralisation has been identified from historical drilling outside of existing resources on the Kalgoorlie North Gold Project.

The identification of a significant number of advanced high grade exploration targets exemplifies the potential for both near surface and underground high grade deposits within the project area.

The significant historical results include 11 m @ 458.9 g/t, including 1.0 m @ 3112 g/t, Hole BCRB2194, 17 m @ 3.5 g/t, including 2.0 m @ 11.68 g/t, Hole DXL107, 4.0 m @ 16.1 g/t, including 1.0 m @ 58.6 g/t, Hole BCRC165 and 14 m @ 60.82 g/t, including 1.0 m @ 684 g/t, Hole BCRC173

The historical results from the Eureka shear zone in the west of the Project area are very encouraging. Historical drilling on the northern extensions to the shear, which hosts the Eureka deposit, was conducted on a North-North Westerly orientation to test the major shear.

High grade intercepts encountered are located in close proximity to a North-Easterly orientated cross cutting structure, identified from detailed airborne magnetic survey information, which has been poorly drill tested. At the Excelsior deposit to the east, which currently hosts an Inferred Resource of 187,000ozs from 4.2 Mt @ 1.4 g/t, numerous intercepts beyond the current extents of the resource require further
drilling to test the mineralisation within the Excelsior Shear Zone.

Drilling is currently progressing in this area, while a RC drilling program is being planned to target mineralisation which has not been adequately tested by the historical drilling.

Atom seeks to target these high grade cross cutting structures with drilling programs during 2010.`
