I've been asked for proof that Australia is racist. anyone who reads my posts knows that I don't believe "racist" is a valid term, but it is in common parlance and is a term accepted in scholastic circles.

the other point is that "proof" means certainty that is unequivocal. Evidence is a more apt term.

on the topic we are considering the attitudes of people. attitudes are difficult to ascertain but academic studies use several methods to determine various attributes that relate to attitude. One such is historical behaviours which can be construed as prejudicial to one or more sector of the community.

Racism is an enduring structural phenomenon that detrimentally impacts the social fabric of societies, human relations and community wellbeing across time [1, 2]. While debates remain regarding what constitutes racism, in this protocol, we define racism as a historical and ongoing system of oppression, which creates hierarchies between social groups based on perceived differences relating to origin and cultural background [1, 3]

the linked study looks at research papers across a range of methodologies and timeframes. it collates data and discusses the outcomes. I recommend the paper as a broad cross-sectional analysis.

Racism has adverse health effects on those who experience racism. the problem can come in many guises, including Gov legislation and actions by Gov officials such as policing and even legal courts. its not just an interpersonal matter.

the Voice is an attempt to remediate the legacies of previous Gov treatment of Aboriginal people by allowing them to advise how legislation can result in racist laws, and how to prevent racism against this particularly damaged cohort of people.
