Some perspective

I have been reading all the MPL related posts on HC since they started. And yes, I bought in the general public offer.

Some posters (since it floated) have come out bagging the co in a big way, without contributing to the pre float discussion.

The comments 'its been a waste of time' or 'what a rip off' or even 'I could have got more in interest' have been prolific.

So, I crunched some numbers.

'Mum's and dad's' could have sold at an average of 7.5% profit over the last two days. (yes I realise that its a pain doing it over the phone, but you still could have)

Say you applied for 100k. Then your allocation was $11 450.

Now, lets say you have an account that earns 5%/pa.

Cut off day for application was 14/11. Assuming you sent your cash on this day, you to this date, you have forgone $151 in interest.

Now the average profit over the last two days has been around 7.5%.

Had you sold your $11 450, your profit would have been $858.75.

So, unless you invested far in excess of 100k, you would be ahead.

So 'mum and dad' investors have been looked after.

If, like me you have a long term outlook, ie, you did not invest for a quick buck on open, there is every chance it will pay off.

Pissed of posters either:
a) are trying to downramp so they can buy cheaply
2) invested far more than 100k (in which case they probably don't need the cash)
3) Were hopeful of a massive frenzy rally on open to make a ridiculous profit.
4) are sore that they were too disorganised to apply/ or didn't have the cash on hand.

Either way, for me, its a bit like worrying about the value of your home on a daily basis.
