Western Desert Resources drills Area D, confirms extensive hematite iron mineralisation
    by Proactive Investors

First drill hole assay results received by Western Desert Resources (ASX: WDR) at its Roper Bar iron ore project in Area "D" in the Northern Territory, have confirmed an extensive system of hematitic ironstone in zones at or near surface.

Roper Bar is a joint venture with Japanese trading house, Itochu's Australia subsidiary, IMEA Exploration and Development of Australia Pty Ltd.

Norm Gardner managing director of WDR said the highest iron values were up to 59% Fe at Area “D”. And assays from Area D have an overall grade of 45% Fe.

Gardner said phosphorous & aluminium levels were consistently very low.

He said 124 holes have been completed in area “D” with assay results received from 39 of those holes.

Gardner said, a visual examination of drilling samples from Area “F” indicate thicker zones of higher grade material, however assays have not yet been received.

WDR and Itochu will continue to drill at the Roper Bar project until the end of the dry season, in mid November.

Separately, a trading halt has been requested by the company in the afternoon until Monday 31 August 2009. In a statement, WDR said it was "in possession and is examining new assay results from the current drilling program at Area "F". After completing examination of the assays, a further statement will be made.
