I'm surprised you believe criminals should be locked up and then later on retrospectively, a magistrate and prosecutor decide, without new charges being brought before a court, to THROW AWAY THE KEYS.

Did you spend time in the lockup when you were young?
How would you feel back then about being imprisoned for your whole life when a fixed term and a 10 non-parole period had been handed down as punishment not life?

Would you have appealed your sentence at the time had you and the presiding judge known the ruling was not ironclad?

Do the crime, do the time!
It is up to the judge to set the full punishment at the time of sentencing not for the sentence to be set at the whim of the judiciary later on.
