the world previously was able to live within its means
the facts are the wealthy have simply become more wealthy in recent decades, with distributions of income & rates of taxation as it was prior to the Great Depression
i listened to Geithner today, who was firm about taking away the tax cuts for the top 2% earners
but basically, imo, tax needs to return to where it used to be, where the hihgest tax bracket was 54% and the company tax 35%
of course, this will never happen until there is real pain
also, imo, we are living in a social experiment with promises to & vote buying in relation to the aged population
for example, why should my mother, who lives in a large home, receive a pension when her three children have the means to support her? worse, my sister is now living with her and renting her apartment for $400/w
my mother's neighbours are so wealthy but they even have managed to obtain a small govt pension
as the aged populution grows, probably more means testing is required so social welfare is only for the genuinely needy
idealistic for sure but reality is catching up to fantasy
