some things to consider

I have to admit... A few times when reading articles and information put out by various lobby groups regarding the significance of the Tarkine my lack lustre moral compass has had me questioning whether or not I should really be supporting a mining operation in the middle of a special place like the Tarkine.

So... to reason things out with myself I tried to put things into perspective.

The Mount Lindsay Mine will be approximately 194 hectares in size once all the land is cleared to create the main Pit / Processing Plant and Tailings Dump.

The Livingstone Creek Mine will be 78 hectares and the Riley Creek mine will be similar...

    1 x Hectare is 100m x 100m = 10,000m² or if you like the old units 2.47 acres.

So the total area needing to be cleared for the 3 mines would be about 400 hectares lets say.

The Tarkine is 477,000 hectares in size.

So to put that into perspective VMS 3 mines will occupy 0.084% of the total forest, with no new roads or other infrastructure requirements.

Yes... That's right less than 1/10th of 1% of the total forest

The DSO mines will have a life of 2 to 3 years at most and will then undergo some kind of re-mediation (probably will be allowed to fill with water and become lakes which "could" actually benefit surrounding flora and fauna in the long run)

The Main Skarn Tin & Tungsten mine will have a life of about 10 years before it is remediated.

Of course other nearby skarns probably could lengthen the life of the whole operation to double that 10 year life if / when they are approved for mining, but they would require significantly less clearing as the main processing plant and Talings dump would already be in place. In fact it may even be possible to re-fill the Main Skarn with the Tailings from any future expansion leaving behind almost no pit at all...

So in essence these Fascist, Socialist, Anti Development, Wealth Destroying, Agenda 21 Loving, New World Order Extremist Alarmists want to kill off this project because 0.084% of the total Forrest will be cleared, to create 200+ full time permanent jobs for up to 20 years or more...

Could see some pressure on the SP this week. Get Up will be launching a barage of full page ads in news papers across the country trying to pressure Tony Burke to Slap a Heritage Listing on the Tarkine.

Which BTW does not prevent VMS from going ahead with a mine, it simply means we have more red tape to deal with before we can get under way, if that were to occur. A mere speed bump.

If you haven't already, I urge you to email or call Tony Burke and signify your support for the project THIS WEEK so that both sides have an equal voice.

    Cheers and Good Luck Holders.
