Possibly selling out in anticipation of a fall in the price of gold or severe market downturn. They can buy back their stakes cheaper.

Sounds fair to me.

But will they be right or wrong?

Selling out at 80 cents looks as if they knew there were issues that would bring the price down. The other director only sold after the company announced what the issues were, so he has not done anything wrong, IMO.
