If there was decree that everyone had to go to their neighbours house and break his windows, imagine what GDP growth would show next qtr. doing the repairs, but no starving child would be fed.
Same with Russia manufacturing tanks and artillery shells. Great for GDP but doesn't raise anyone out of poverty.
In Australia GDP rises every time we allow a new immigrant but every new arrival lowers the standard of living of those already here so you are correct: GDP is not "everything".
