Anti-fossil fuel campaigners seeking to block the use of fracking are risking the future of Australia's gas supplies, South Australian Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis says.
In a strong defence of fracture stimulation to produce natural gas, Mr Koutsantonis says companies involved in the technology in Australia have a long track record of safety.
"The economic benefits of this industry should not be underestimated. Gas powers and heats our homes, drives our manufacturing businesses and creates jobs and investment - particularly for our regional communities," the treasurer told a conference in Melbourne on Tuesday.
