Its outlandish....the recipient could have negotiated cash (we are not talking big bucks) or at least oppies with a strike of say 1.5c.

Maybe the recipient already has plenty of stock and is happy to send a bullish signal to the market? The date - end 2014 is interesting. No one throws away hard earned money (any) on an impossible unreachable target....which at this moment 5c + seems....

But then again very few stocks have the potential upside ESI has....presently $6 mill mcapped in a thermal coal market that is fundamentally solid long term regardless of Europe woes etc.

ATM ECT dont have the $3.8 mill - I'm going to assume that the recipient of the 5c oppies is VERY confident the $3.8 mill (or close) will be done....
