I think Surprise field is going to be a nice SURPRISE indeed.

For Cottee to send a letter to NT Govt requesting a Production License after ONLY about 5 weeks of extended testing is UNUSUAL!

We saw CTP wanting to do 3D seismic on a huge area which was much bigger than the Surprise anticline structure we were shown during drilling (originally only about 8 or so sq kms). Now they are shooting 3D over about 90 sq kms up to a salt pinch out to the far east and they show a more recent structure map with east west trending faults up to a salt pinch out. Hmmm... The earlier pressure testing they did before the rig left showed good pressure readings and with very good build up and indicated that the oil flow could go from 380 barrels measured to 400 barrels indicated from the pressure that soon built up after the rig was about to leave. Something seemed to indicate it was a bigger structure than what they first mapped as a modest simple faulted anticline. Then they looked at the siesmic harder IMO and said there has to be something bigger than they originally mapped. Then they came up with this faulted east west structure with a salt pinch out and a possible 100 Million Barrels.
THEN, within only 5 weeks of starting the Extended Production Test (which the Govt gave us only 3 months) instead of Cottee requesting an extension of the extended testing, Cottee then says we have enough data to justify a Production Licence now! That is highly significant. They were only about 50% of the way thru processing the 3D when he lodged the paper work for a Production Licence. It sounds to me like they have found something a bit bigger than what they originally thought and that the up to 100MM barrels scenario may not be pie in the sky. Remember very recently Cottee also said they reckon the oil at Surprise is the same composition as the oil at Mereenie (hundreds of kilometres away) and that they "have a hydrocarbon kitchen that is as big as the US Army in size". So something is starting to look interesting here and IMO the Surprise structure may be stratigraphic and structural and may be quite big from the pressure readings observed during the very short 5 to 6 week period of the extended production test that may be saying we have something big!
