I think you'll actually find that historically there has been a real instability in maintaining management positions at store level. I remember seeing a whole host of them on their internal vacancy list this time last year and being gob smacked. From what I understand, the pay, like in many other sectors has been stagnant for some time. Store managers aren't well remunerated, have to work most weekends and have an ever increasing workload to shoulder. They also carry the burden of their stores performance in a poorly marketed business. Tough assignment and one that I wouldn't envy!!
