Whats so paranoid about discussing the possibility of a bank run? They're happening - right now and they've happened all through history. Have a read of Charles Kindleberger's "Manias, Panics & Crashes". The first edition was in 1978. He revised it five times - five! - to reflect the latest crises before he passed away a few years ago.
Furthermore, how can any gold investor hope for gold to go to the moon without the possibility of some serious economic disturbances along the way?
