I guess I was pretty keen for a response and I thought my interjection might draw him and others out.

It's very difficult for some beliefs to own their negative attributes.

Satan causes all these problems and is embedded in political systems and other religions.
Adam caused death because he ate a forbidden fruit.
Christ died for our sins.

It's not the least bit true but it is so deeply ingrained that nothing can shake it today.
What a crazy injustice it would be to have Jesus die for somebody else's sin.
