Because it is still part of a process that started when they applied, it cost very little money to progress and there may be benefits later on. KMax led to LMax and to SMax. Who knows where this patent can lead to. The patent has steps that are clearly patentable, those steps may be utilized in processing other micas. It may stop other people using those processes or alternatively we can license those steps.
