The minimisation of home sleep testing equipment is certainly a hot area.
The study used an Apple Watch which is 2 years old now, and software a year old. Apple Watch Series 8 with the new watchOS now with native sleep stage tracking support - so some of the tech gorillas seem to be diving deep into this area.
In terms of direct competitors to SomFit, Dreem Labs and Sunrise are the most interesting to me.
Dreem 3 (https://dreem.com/clinicaltrials) seems to be a very similar product just in headband form. It has 5 EEG sensors vs (I'm guessing) one on the SomFit. It's more bulky, but doesn't require any adhesives.
Sunrise (https://us.hellosunrise.com/pages/landing-us) is working on a product based on mandibular (lower jaw) movement and other sensors. They have some involvement with SOM.AX and the upcoming digital oral appliance as well.
