Fundamental analysis would have picked up that the group was cash flow negative for the past 5 years with dividends paid for out of increased borrowings.
Fundamental analysis would have highlighted the gold operations as being underwater at spot prices and onlt surviving on the hedge forward margin.
Fundamental analysis would have flagged the quality of reserves against a 10 year hedge book.
Fundamental analysis would have raised serious concerns with the company's refusal to give a break up of head grade /cost of operations for each of its mines.
Fundamental analysis would have highlighted the problem with the Cabot contract when the directors finally disclosed it was not a firm contract, rather than a mere option.
Sorry, fundamental analysis when performed correctly, did the job. The question of analysis by certain broking houses who were chasing corporate fees was a case of fundamental analysis for personal greed as opposed to the well being of client's interests-would not surprise to see legal action on this particular issue.
May I suggest that people who did the fundamental thing were the sellers the created the negative charts? The two then worked in tandum?
