Sony is currently working on two kinds of batteries, chemically speaking. The first one, as we discussed above is a variant of the Lithium Ion batteries, and would be Lithium Sulfur, and the second version is a little different as it is a Magnesium Sulfur Battery. Sony has had quite a thought here, as there is indeed a definite need in the markets to boost battery life of devices.

Magnesium has its own advantages when compared with Lithium. Comparatively speaking, Magnesium is found in more abundance in the crust of the Earth, it does not react in the air, and is comparatively easier to mine. As is being reported by Extreme Tech, a hypothetical lithium-sulfur battery that could match the weight of current lithium-ion batteries would either offer 40% more range at the same weight, or could be used to make a much lighter battery at equivalent range to current lithium-ion. This is a major foresight by Sony to help boost battery life.
