Today we learned from the head of Sony’s gaming division that it will not market a smartphone-based headset. Rather, it will focus on expanding content for its dedicated virtual reality headset into non-gaming areas. Last I checked, personal devices are still red hot, while clunky, console-based entertainment is slowly fading into the sunset.

Do Sony have a bigger game in play using new technology from AKP? Seems odd they would pass up the opportunity to make some profits in a red hot market unless they have some new disruptive technology lined up to challenge major competitors in the smartphone based headset market?
