Nobody here is saying marijuana is harmless but the evidence is pretty overwhelming from the social stats that alcohol is significantly more dangerous ....it is a major contribution to MVA's, violent assault, homicide, domestic violence, work accidents.....and ironically, in small doses is associated with better health outcomes!

With regard to the illegal drugs most dealers are dealing to fuel their own habit. Where is the utility of punishing this lot aggressively?.The USA has millions, millions of them in jail... most there on minor drugs charges at great taxpayer and social cost with not a single scrap of evidence that this part of the "War on Drugs" has made any difference in reducing the harm.

Those with addictions will usually find a way to get what they think they need...there is no simple solution for this. Conning their families and friends for money, rolling their GPs with bogus ailments for unneeded benzos and painkillers..... you can't do much until people start being responsible for their own addictive behavior. Drug prohibition just puts the money in criminal pockets and doesn't stop the harm.
