This is a FORMAL apology. Not an apology that says the commonwealth have been wrong up until today.
Prior to the election the Rudd critics on this issue were mocked as fear mongers for the suggestion that an apology would open the flood gate for compensation claims.
Now just look at where we are at only a couple of days from saying "sorry". The issue of compensation is at the forefront of the debate because a good few of the stolen generation have seized the moment and called for compensation in spite of Rudd saying it just won't happen.
