I have just re-visited the 12 Drilling Reports to date. Where did you get the information regarding changing the target depth from 4800m to 4400m? The reports consistantly stated approximate depth to top of target at 4400m and total planned drilling depth of 4800m TVDSS.
As far as the reports are concerned, todays Drilling Report 12 is the first time the target zone depth has been adjusted.
The adjusted target depth could be related to approximation of sound velocity during the seismic processing, particularly if there was no access to any down hole data from previous drilling in the area.
Perhaps the previous 4400m target was accidentally quoted from seafloor and not MSL. Not likely but not impossible.
