I guess the registry isn't incorrect in its advice. It is quite OK to transfer the shares to another person. The question of crystalising losses never came up, it was assumed by me.

I was planning to wait till July and see what transpires and then perform an off market transfer if the company doesn't relist for some reason. I too am unable to wait much longer and beyond July will be looking at alternatives to crystalise a capital loss.
