That is correct. I don't know if it legal or not. But one thing is for sure. And that is, that once you gave your SRN/HIN to anyone, and you hold shares in other companies under the same Brokers or Nominees accounts, the SRN does not change. I have many different holdings with NabTrade and the SRN number is the same for all of them.
As such, although I don't believe that they would do it, they could have access to all of your holdings in different companies listed under the same number.
Even the ASA (Australian Sahreholders Association) will not ask you for your SRN/HIN number when you are wanting them to vote on your behalf, or nominate them as your proxy.
A bit weird if you ask me.
