That is why we are taking the entire battery value creation in our own hands.
Therefore we have established a battery company for the management of all our battery activities. The headquarter in Salzgitter and the first own battery factory form the heart of the #BatteryValley. From there, our cell production will be brought into large-scale production and VW Group will develop into a global cell manufacturer. “We have set up one of the most competent battery teams in the world and are therefore at the forefront of the competition. Volkswagen has the size and clout to secure the ramp-up of its e-mobility strategy with its own battery roadmap”, said our CEO Herbert Diess.The battery company will work on all activities along the value chain – including processing raw materials to developing our unified cell to managing six battery factories in Europe. In addition, they will also work on new business models based around reusing car batteries and recycling the valuable raw materials they contain. We are aiming to become the world’s leading manufacturer of electric vehicles. And with this plan, we are creating efficient and future-proof structures to serve the growing demand for batteries worldwide. The company’s CEO Frank Blome appeals: “We aim to provide customers of all Group brands with e-vehicles with the greatest possible range, charging performance, sustainability and safety at the best possible cost.” And the next big milestone for our battery company lies just ahead!
