    It's very rare that SA are producing sufficient for their own needs. If it wasn't for the larger interstate coal fired stations they would frequently experience blackouts. Today they have their diesel generators working. Interestingly, earlier today they had the diesels going and charging the battery whilst still getting power from interstate.
    Anyone who thinks that renewables are going to replace coal in the foreseeable future are delusional. Whilst some are claiming that it's possible, it's unlikely to be affordable given the amount of money spent so far for such a little return. The attached printout illustrates the situation today, and what has to change if coal was to be replaced.
