south australia is facing minority government

SOUTH Australia is facing the prospect of minority government, with a final result unlikely to be determined until next week.

With about 50 per cent of the vote counted, predictions are that the Liberal party will pick up three seats, but fall short of winning the six seats required to form government and end Labor’s 12-year rule.

The Liberals are forecast to win Hartley and Bright from the Labor Party, and also pick up the independent seat of Mt Gambier.

The Labor seats of Elder, Mitchell and Ashford would need to fall to the Liberal party for it to form majority government.

If Labor can hold on to all three seats, it will retain majority government.

It is likely that postal and pre-poll votes will determine the result in these seats.

Independents Bob Such and Geoff Brock may prove critical in determining who forms government.
