G'day guys - I would like to extend my sincere thanks to those who have contributed so much through their well researched/knowledgeable posts during 2010. I also wish you & Cougar a very prosperous 2011.
Herewith is the first installment from the South Burnett Times for 2011. This item is from todays edition i.e., 07.01.2011 Page 2 YOUR SAY.
By the way, you can have your say by posting a letter to PO BOX 312 KINGAROY QLD 4610 or emailing [email protected]
SPEAK UP BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE
For some time now, the subject of Kingaroy water supply has been concerning me, however I have put it on the back burner by saying, "It doesn't really concern me as we no longer rely on the town water supply because we have rain-water tanks, and in the drier times we have a bore which has perfect drinking water."
This utopia was somewhat shattered when the Cougar Energy UCG plant trial was reported to have leaked toxins into the underground water aquifers.
After reading that the council is now planning to fluoridate the town supply and reading the letter by J McLean (31/12/10) I have been challenged out of my apathy.
Kingaroy's water supply has never been great in my opinion, and that is why we chose to by-pass the line when we built our new home 17 years ago and rely on rain water.
The overflow from the sewerage treatment plant, various piggeries and farms makes its way eventually into Gordonbrook Dam and I guess the water has to go through some serious treatment before it is termed "fit to drink".
Just note where the water ran in the recent floods. No wonder it tastes disgusting!
Then we have this UCG trial which has been shown in other countries to cause irreversible damage to underground water supplies by releasing toxins into the streams and creating health hazards for people and animals alike.
And we don't need to think that only the farmers are involved in this fight.
It should concern each one of us as the underground water flows in all directions and will end up in our dams.
Water is a necessity for life, and for a population to remain healthy it is necessary for that water to be pure and unpolluted!
Now they are planning on releasing yet another poison into the water supply with fluoridation.
What are our governments doing?
Are they trying to reduce the population?
It takes very little research to find out the negative effects of fluoride.
Below is an extract from just one of the many articles published in Dr J Mercola's nutritional newsletters that points out why we should be saying no to fluoride in our water.
"If you believe the myth that fluoride is good for your chindren's (and your) teeth, think again. There are a vast number of scientific research studies confirming the opposite - that fluoride is a toxin that is extremely detrimental to your body, your brain, and even to your teeth.
"One of the most active research areas today is fluoride's ability to damage your brain. Recent human studies from China have confirmed the results of previous animal studies; that elevated fluoride exposure leads to reduced IQ in children.
"Cognitive ability is further reduced if your child is deficient in iodine.
"Prior to this, more than 30 animal studies produced since 1992 have reported impairment in learning and memory processes among animals treated with fluoride.
"Even at levels as low as 1ppm (part per million), studies have demonstrated direct toxic effects on brain tissue."
I would ask Council to seriously look into this issue - and I challenge you as a reader to do some research and help put pressure on the powers that be to ban the poisoning of our water supplies!
Please help protect this precious resource before it is too late.
LYN DOODSON

ENDS
What is the betting that Cougar Energy is on the front page of Tuesday's South Burnett Times given today's announcement relating to Benzene being detected at the rate of 1 ppb in a monitoring bore close to the pilot plant?
I have not bought back in. I must admit I am a little concerned given recent testing, that DERM will either delay its decision pending more test results over and extended period or it will simply order them to shut down permanently. Note this is purely my personal opinion.
