    Hi guys

Herewith are some articles from the South Burnett Times over recent weeks. I apologise for not posting earlier but I have been busier than a one legged man in a backside kicking competition.

    TOO LATE TO ARGUE

With reference to the article in the SBT last Tuesday where the Kingaroy concerned Citizens made the point that the explanations and justifications made by Cougar Energy to justify an unjustifiable UCG process, are spurious as they (Cougar) have agreed and the Department of Environment confirm there was contamination of our underground water as a result of their UCG process.

The parties signed contracts agreeing that there would be no contamination. Not any contamination.

There was contamination and therefore the amount has no bearing.

What part of no contamination can't they understand?

With that contract agreed and signed, it is now far too late to start any argument saying otherwise.

NO CHEMICALS TO BE FOUND IN GROUNDWATER

The latest results on Cougar energy's underground coal gasification project has shown no detectable levels of BTEX chemicals.

Since May no benzene or toluene has been detected in groundwater tests conducted by Cougar Energy on water bores and monitoring bores at distances as close as 20 metres and up to 4.2 km from the company's pilot burn site.

Monitoring bores and test results plus 11 additional monitoring bores were recently installed at distances from 20 to 60 metres from where the well casing failure took place, as part of the company's ongoing environmental evaluation work requested by the Queensland government's Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM).
(That paragraph does not make a lot of sense to me).

The extra monitoring bores are positioned radially around the well and allow groundwater to be sampled from different geological layers in the upper aquifer system. Three of the bores did not generate water samples.

All sample test results have been forwarded to DERM and the program of sampling and testing is on-going. Since April cougar Energy has been conducting intensive and continuous groundwater sampling and testing at Kingaroy after the initiation of the pilot burn earlier this year.

Based on the groundwater sampling and testing results, Cougar Energy is confident that the pilot burn at the Kingaroy site has had no adverse impact on landholder water bores.

Managing director Dr Len Walker said the results are good news for the future of the project, which is still being reviewed by the State governement.

    ENDS

Note that the last article was on page 10. It clearly lacked detail by not mentioning the number of water samples taken or the number of various chemical tests undertaken from farmers bores or monitoring bores installed by Cougar.

That is the first installment guys. There are more stories which I will endeavour to type up for you to read over the next few days. It is very time consuming re-typing the stories/letters - how I wish it was a matter of copy & pasteing! I hope I have not made any errors.

    Cheers
