The bets have already been made. 70 plus megafactories pumping out Li batteries and counting (see Benchmark Mineral Intelligence - Simon Moores). Toyota backed the wrong horse and are now trying ways to stay relevant. Squeaky bum time for them and their shareholders. As Tony Seba explains, for a new technology to supplant the Li-ion battery story, it has to trump the rapidly decreasing cost-curve of Li-ions by a factor of 10x to have any chance. The cavalry is not coming to the rescue of any of the alternative battery technologies. Further developments will relate to Li metal and graphene and energy density - which are refinements and extensions of the Li-battery trajectory
