According to media reports in Ecuador, Cornerstone actually lost their operating permits to operate in the Los Cedros Protected Forest last year, and have appealed to the Constitutional Court.

    Excerpt from the lnews report:

"They [Los Cedros Reserve management] won their case for an Action of Protection in the Provincial Court of Imbabura in June 2019, which stripped the mining company of their operating permits. The government, working alongside the mining companies, subsequently appealed against the decision."

"In mid-May 2020, the Constitutional Court of Ecuador, agreed to hear the Government/ENAMI appeal, saying that it hoped to set a precedent concerning mining in Protected Forests using the Rights of Nature."

NCM and BHP etc invested on the basis mining protected forests was deemed legal. The point I wish to make is simply that the legality of mining in these areas is now under review by the highest court of Ecuador.

Solgold, NCM, BHP and other miners will have to rescind their concessions in all Protected Forests and Indigenous territories in the event the court ruling is not in their favor.
