JINLA: "It is a good presentation. Regarding to dividend, you only need to settle it at the record date. that mean if you buy it yesterday, settlement day is 30th, so you are elegible to get dividend, but if you sell it yesterday you can not get dividend. if you sell it today, you can get dividend. It is very simple."

Jinla, you are crazy man. Why would the price drop yesterday instead of today then?

You state everyone who bought it yesterday WILL get the dividend. Therefore they will pay 37c and get 7c back, their effective cost therefore being 37 - 7 = 30c.

You also state everyone who sold yesterday WILL NOT get the dividend. Therefore they will receive 37c, with no dividend. If they hold on for one day they would have received 37 + 7 = 44c, a 19% loss for selling 1 day earlier.

Which begs the question, why would they sell?

oges: "The following is taken from the ASX site
The ex dividend date occurs four business days before the company's Record Date. To be entitled to a dividend a shareholder must have purchased the shares before the ex dividend date. If you purchase shares on or after that date, the previous owner of the shares (and not you) is entitled to the dividend."

Therefore, if you purchase shares on or after 24th of June you will NOT get the dividend, the previous holder is entitled to it! As Mosey, others stated.

Everyone out buying/selling yesterday is not stupid!

Mundy, you agreed with oges quote but it disproves your claims as it clearly states the previous holder will receive it without mentioning anything about having to hold for a further 4 days (essentially a no-mans land). Might not want to dig yourself any deeper.

Shabi, I hope you do not base decisions on answers you receive on this forum without verification from a professional or expert you know personally.
