There certainly is some games being played with SP. It seems like there might be some opposing sides in play. One seems to want SP to hold around 5, a recent edition seems to want it lower in sync with a possible fatigued holder. No one wants it higher.
All guesswork but there is and has been obvious manipulation . Fundamentals will win out anyway so it is irrelevant to me what they do.
