With corporate investors now adhering to ETHICAL investments, and huge question marks over the viability of CCS (carbon capture and storage) STO is taking a huge risk in going ahead with developing the dirtiest gas field ever in Australia north of Darwin. When I see the NT Minister saying "jobs jobs jobs" it makes me quiver. Such a short term and misguided comment. The Fed Govt is no better. Pouring billions into CCS trials rather than leaving it to the private sector. But I guess the Fed has to look after its major donors!
The worst case and most likely one for STO is that they DO spend billions on the development, then see it shut down due to Global pressure on buyers to get their LNG from greener sources.
STO is an old Company and still living in the past.
They talk the talk but have no idea how to walk the walk. Even a change in Federal Govt could wipe them out. The WTO could wipe them out.
The G7 could wipe them out. Activists could wipe them out.
A project that produces more CO2 than LNG is doomed before it starts. The Fed Govt does not have a good track record when it comes to common sense!!! The fact that they are backing it is more a warning than a positive.
Make sure you dont have STO in your Super!!
