Thoughts on the possibility of a special dividend? My gut feeling is no, however plenty of cash in their investment platforms and in Infratil itself.
Infratil has ~$806m cash, with Manawa Energy to pay an additional $56m special divvy and Retire Australia sale tipped to be north of $1B, so let's say a further $500m for IFT's holding. That's already $1.36B or 37% of our current market cap in cash. Obviously, performacne fees will come out of that so minus a little.
I have been thinking about what current investments IFT could redirected these funds towards. Vodafone maybe, but they will have between $1B-$1.5B capital inject post 80% sale of tower assets. CDC, probably not - Greg seems to finance his own growth now and is very disciplined about constructing new data centres only when demand is there. Longroad, on the fence - seeking a new investor so will most likely recieve funds from them. Wellington Airport appears to already be financially stable only to improve when tourist volumes increase. KAO recently purchased another two data centres, so my thinking there is to settle that in before purchasing more.
Qscans and co., could be a place I see funds being redirected through further bolt on acquisitions. It hasn't stopped my pondering of potentially a larger listed diagnostic imaging business. I keep finding myself back at asx listed integral diagnostics (IDX) but the PE would be hard to justify at present. Hypothetically, even if IFT were to purchase IDX at today's price that would still leave ~$500m cash not including $894m of undrawn bank facilities. Additionally, IFT says there are further acquisition facilities if required.
I thought for sure IFT would have bid for Waste Management NZ, but I didn't even read of Morrison and Co. in the process at any stage. Not in a rush for them to spend the funds just brainstorming possible scenarios.
