It is my view based on significant research and inquiries. In Australia, at least.
There are plenty of high-quality rapid antigen tests out there with sensitivity and specificity in the mid to high 90s, so we shouldn’t be kidding ourselves we’re the only high quality one. There are also CE marked rapid antigen saliva tests claiming to have sensitivity in the mid 90s and if those can’t gain traction everywhere, we have no guarantees either (even though it’s a significant bonus).
There are RAT’s out there that get high quality results from anterior nasal samples (as non-invasive and practical as a saliva test we’re yet to even validate, let alone market and sell).
I’m sure there is plenty of room for all, but it also comes down to distrusting the quality of RAT compared to PCR.
So when I suggest it’s a good idea to put a brake on expectations, I think it’s for good reason.
