Hard to tell if the short interest is due to someone thinking the stock will sell off or if the short stock could be to hedge out exposure of a long option position (as it is only a small short). Especially as the options have been trading under intrinsic value as long as you can short the stock there is an arbitrage available (taking into account stock borrow costs for however long it takes to exercise the options)
