To the rest of you reading this.. I apologise...
Hey Mods, suggestion can we have a Climate Change / Environment Forum then we can have some real "headbanging" debate about this subject.
HB I appreciate you have formed your own views about climate change and its causes.
As I have mine.
So, in the interests of being a gentleman I will respect your views.
I'm not a scientist. I'm an engineer. There is a difference...
Do you know what it is?
Engineers (in the main) deal with solving REAL world problems and are either self employed or employed by private industry to design and create "useful stuff" that contributes to wealth and prosperity.
Scientists (more so climate scientists) deal with theoretical problems and possible causes, using data fed into computer based models, and are in the main employed by government run and funded organisations and have no interest in creating wealth and prosperity.
The weather man cannot tell me with any reliable degree of accuracy what the weather will be 2 or 3 days from now.
But you expect me and others to believe that these same GOVERNMENT FUNDED scientists can tell us what the weather and sea levels will be 50 to 100 years from now?
Sorry. I don't buy it.
Fact: most of the data IPCC use in their "models" is collected from ground based weather stations which are situated in ever expanding man made Heat Islands (concrete jungles) so the temperature data they use for the models is inaccurate as it does not take into account the rise in night time temperatures which is caused by the concrete / bitumen surfaces storing and slowly releasing heat overnight.
Fact: Satellite measuring data since the 70's which is by far the most accurate measure of heat in the atmosphere has actually shown temperatures in the troposphere are falling and have been for at least the last 10 years.
I don't know what field of science you are in HB but what I do know, is that the Climate and weather patterns are constantly changing, and that media coverage of weather events is far greater now than ever before.
Giving the false impression that climate change is causing more storms / droughts and floods.
I grew up on a farm, which was handed down 4 generations.
I have photos, of our house, which is now 140 years old solid stone, with the original THICK galvanised iron roof, that was PULVERISED and smashed to pieces by a hail storm, with hail larger than cricket balls.
The storm was in 1911 (the age of steam)
It also killed all of our sheep and cows and totally flattened the crops.
I also have photos of the 1956 river murray flood, which was far far higher that this years flood.
Extreme weather events have always occurred and will continue to occur. It has absolutely nothing to do with human induced climate change.
Anyway, no need to worry, we've passed peak oil, so oil burning will become a non event issue within 20 to 30 years all by itself.
As for coal, well its going to be here for a long time yet, just look at germany, india and china if you want to see the future of coal.
Yes, environmental pollution is bad, waste is bad but the biggest single contributing factor to the climate and temperatures is THE SUN and the position of our orbit around it which changes over time dues to changes in planetary alignments and gravitational pulls, not to mention solar activity.
It is a HUGE mistake to assume that the output of the sun is constant because it is not, it goes up and down constantly and our weather and climate is affected by these changes.
We could continue this all day, but won't achieve anything.
Question... since we have limited capacity for Hydro expansion, and nobody wants nuclear in their own back yard, where do you think future energy will come from?
Solar / Wind / Waves / Geothermal?
Each have their own inherent limitations and problems.
Who do you think will pay for their development and design?
The same companies who JG wants to tax?
What ever happened to the ozone hole? Don't hear about that anymore... do we... same with Y2k bug...
CFC'S take up to 20 years to reach the ozone layers and they take even longer to break down, so the levels of CFC'S reaching the Ozone layer is still increasing today even though they were phased out in the 90's.
HB, look at the title of this thread... and my prediction... where is the price today? hmmmm
Still falling on a green day... Something's not right here chaps...
Believe what you want to believe, I just look at the facts.
The facts speak for themselves.
