Investors are not shooting themselves in the foot. They will have been buyers today because they recognise the value that the announcement represents. That value is the reason for the 75% long term compound trend growth that the share price displays. Its realisation is a gradual process.

Short-term traders are the cause of the short and medium term price fluctuations that appear to be illogical. High volume after an announcement provides an opportunity to take profits after recent price gains. The value described in the announcement is not relevant to the trading decision. Usually the share price begins to rise again a few days later once those sellers have satisfied the need to have their gains crystallised.

I have found that life is far more relaxed once it is realised that it is a complete waste of time trying to rationalise short-term share price movements.
