Vandals have recently caused an Optus 4G tower at Mullumbimby to topple over, apparently by using power tools to remove the nuts tying the tower to its base plate. (see: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-05-29/mullumbimby-4g-mobile-phone-tower-destroyed-vandalism-suspected/103906422).
The site was not one of those protected by Spectur surveillance equipment and I'm guessing that the damage in dollars alone for Optus will well exceed $1 million.
A lingering question is whether the incident may now cause the company to further extend its deployment of Spectur surveillance equipment at its regional and remote 4G tower infrastructure sites.
