    long thread, hard to take in all accounts but I would just like to make, IMO, the connection between household disciplinary measures using violence and the way kids may interpret that for the school yard.

    It's a lot of responsibility for a minor to be expected to understand the parent's justification for use of violence to communicate the need for discipline. I'm not arguing that this may or may not work for some families behind close doors. My point is that there is a risk that this is translated the wrong way into the school yard and results in all sorts of behaviour associated with bullying and un-necessary violence at school.

    So my personal conclusion is that to reduce this risk, its best to remove all voilence against your own children so that there is no excuse for them to use it against others.
