Rubbish. Of course assault is assault but look at the problems that the lack of FIRM disclipine is causing. I got "the strap" if I misbehaved. I dont think I ever got it if I didnt deserve it. I soon learnt not to play up. I got the cane at school and I soon learnt that if you behaved then you didnt get it.

It certainly didn't turn me into a "bully". Actually it was probably more the reverse.

I still say "spare the rod, spoil the child".
