I think you are taking a bit of poetic licence with your definition.

My belief is that it in this case it means "we have succesfully ADMINISTERED the vaccine"

and it then iplies "NOW we will see if the vaccine works."

That is precisely what the trial is about

And I bl**dy well hope it does work !!!!!!
