There is a difference between mobile payment and nfc payment. The closest technology we have is the nfc credit card.eg you tap yr credit card on the caltex nfc visa terminal rather than swiping or inserting the card. The appeal of being able to do that with a nfc smartphone is the variety of information the nfc smartphone can provide the user if fitted with the applicatios.Simply a plastic nfc credit card has its limitations, while the nfc phone creates a variety of growth opportunities as previously listed.I replied to pugsley's post because imo it made the technology and establishment of the network sound to confusing when it is not.For example, first you need the mobile network operator telstra, then you need the payments network Visa, then you need a technology provider gemalto and finally a bank.(Of course you need the particular nfc application). We already have the nfc credit card network in place and growing, all telstra needs to do is sign an agreement with visa like vodafone, and instantly you have a domestic and international nfc solution for telstra's customers.ps as visa and mastercard already have an international network in place, imo they will become the major players in nfc payments but with reduced profit margin.Kaching and paypal still have a question mark over global acceptance.
